Momentum

I built Momentum to make it easier to stick to the habits that make your days better. It’s a desktop habit tracker for Apple Mac, Linux and Windows that helps you keep up with reading, meditation, exercise, vitamins and the other small things you want to do. Instead of trying to do everything, Momentum gives you a simple target: do enough to win the day. However small, that something counts. PS. If you notice the creepy task names in the demo, don’t be alarmed. It is a reference to Radiohead’s "Fitter, Happier, More Productive".

What it is

Check a task, earn a point. Reach your target points and you win the day.

Your score moves as you check off your habits. If you’re one point short at nine in the evening, you might finally do that two-minute task you’ve been putting off. That small action counts.

Momentum is designed around the habits you actually want to keep: reading, exercising, meditating, taking your vitamins, or simply getting outside. You don’t have to complete everything on your list to have a successful day. You just need to do enough.

Your target can adapt to your energy, too. There are different ways to configure the habit tracker to suit how you work, including bonus points for your daily priority and the goals you star.

Over time, Momentum shows you which habits appear on your best days, which ones you keep doing regardless, and which habits are helping you get over the finish line. The more you log, the more you can see what actually helps you keep your momentum.

Inside the app
01
Earn points, win the day
Check a task, earn a point. Beat your target. Day won.
02
You only need enough
The target is set regardless of how many items are on your list. Pick what you can. Winning is not perfection, it is doing something
03
Two minutes from winning
Being one point short towards the end of the day makes you quickly do one of those 2-min tasks.
04
Nobody really notices if you don't show up
Work has deadlines. Your health doesn't. But Momentum gives it one.
05
Swim, water the plants, feed your sourdough starter
Not everything is daily. Set how many times you aim to do something each week, and you can commit them anytime
06
Advanced analytics
After logging you will unlock advanced analytics to see what get's you over the finish line, what's challenging, and which have become automatic

Who this is not for

I would rather you skip it than buy the wrong thing.

You want to do everything

Of course you can set the target to the number of tasks you have listed. But it is unrealistic. Accepting swapping the gym for a bike ride is fine.

You want a to-do list app

No projects, no deadlines, no due dates. This is a repetitive checklist (which of course you can update) week on week

You want it on your phone

This is a desktop app. But you can print out your daily or weekly list if you wish to take it with you.

You want to see instant trends in your behaviour

You need to log for at least a fortnight before the app can reveal something. Start by checking things off.
